After five years of teaching typeface design to students of all levels, we’ve seen the transformative power of education. It can lead to new careers, build confidence, expand professional networks, and even spark joy.
Now, we’re asking for your support to make type design education more accessible, regardless of a student’s financial means. With your help, we can create more scholarship opportunities and continue our mission to expand access to type design education.
How will you use the funds I donate?
The funds will go directly to students, through scholarships or another form of tuition relief.
Our immediate goal is to fund scholarships for Latin Two, starting January 15, 2025.
Scholarships in the past
Over the years, we’ve offered multiple avenues for tuition relief — our sliding scale tuition, a work study program, and full-ride scholarships. In 2021, Glyphs subsidized a portion of student tuition for two editions of Latin Two. In 2023, Google Fonts generously funded the enrollment of four students in Latin One.
As it stands, Practica is funded almost entirely through student tuition. We lack the safety net of a larger organization backing us. Your contribution will not only help us expand access to type design education, but build a more sustainable platform to support aspiring type designers now and in the future.
Thank you!
To show our appreciation for your support, we’ll proudly showcase your name on our website (if you consent). With a donation of $500 or more, we’ll include your logo. Thank you for being a part of this journey with us!
Our students
So far, we've welcomed 123 students into the Practica family. And because we’re an online platform, they've come from over 30 countries, including:
Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, India, Iran, Ireland, Ivory Coast, Lithuania, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK, USA, Vietnam, Zimbabwe.
Our students come from diverse backgrounds—recent university graduates, seasoned professionals in the design industry, self-taught type designers, educators, and individuals from regions without local type design programs. The accessibility of our courses enables students to study typeface design who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity.
Why Practica Program?
Practica is an online platform dedicated to typeface design education. Since 2020, under the leadership of founders Nicole Dotin and Sol Matas, we’ve expanded from teaching Latin script courses to offering the first-ever online Devanagari type design courses led by Kimya Gandhi.
Our expert instructors and visiting lecturers provide a diverse, inclusive, and supportive learning environment, empowering students from around the world to develop their skills and pursue their passion for type design.
